MACFAST bags top ranks in MBA exams

TOP GUNS: Mridula James and Dileep Koshy Koshy of Mar Athanaseus College For Applied Sciences, Thiruvalla, who secured the first and second ranks respectively in the MBA (2006-2008 batch) examinations of Mahatma Gandhi University.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Mar Athanaseus College For Applied Sciences, Thiruvalla, (MACFAST),the first private self-financing college in the State, has won top ranks in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) examinations of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) for the fifth consecutive year.

MACFAST students Mridula James of Angamaly and Dileep Koshy Koshy of Thiruvalla secured the first and second ranks in the MBA (2006-08 batch) examinations of the MGU held in October 2008.

MACFAST started the MBA course in 2002. Renji Zacharia of the first batch won the second rank in the examinations held in 2004. The college continued its good run among the self-financing management institutions in the State with Vimal Chandran of the second batch bagging the first rank in the MBA examinations in 2005.

Sindu Samuel of the third batch won the third rank in 2006 and Reshma Nair of the fourth batch bagged the first rank in 2007.

Fr. Abraham Mulamoottil, college principal, said the All-India Council for Technical Education had sanctioned 120 seats for the MBA course at MACFAST during 2007-2010.

The college offers postgraduate courses in biotechnology, bioinformatics, food science and technology, computer application, plant biotechnology, biochemistry and phyto-medical science and technology, besides being a research centre recognised by the MGU.

Fr. Mulamoottil said the college management was exploring the possibility of doing away with tuition fee for various courses in biosciences.

A MACFAST academy-industry interface had been constituted at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram to facilitate business exposure and placement for students, he said.
